Working with a career development coach can be particularly useful if you find that you keep getting rejected at job application or interview stage.

There are lots of resources available on the internet which will help you understand why you keep getting rejected from job applications and interviews but if you’re finding that they aren’t helping, then that is the right time to talk to a career development coach who can help you work out specifically what you need to change.

4. What’s the advantage of working with a career development coach rather than trying to work it out by yourself?

Working with a career development coach who can help you explore what might be going wrong in your job applications and interviews is likely to be much quicker and more effective than trying to do it by yourself. A career development coach has many years’ experience of matching individuals with jobs and they can provide deeper insight into the solution than resources on the internet.

5. How am I different to a careers consultant/careers counsellor/careers advisor?

I am an academic researcher at the Institute of Work Psychology, a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society , an accredited coach with the ICF and EMCC and a human being.

I know what it’s like to want to do meaningful work and not be able to get an interview.

I know what it’s like to feel like you’re worth more but not be able to work out how to show it.

I know what it’s like to realise you’re getting older and this is not the life you had in mind for yourself.

My role is not to show you what’s out there. My role is to show you what’s inside. That is all you need to succeed.
